Stroll through the vineyards and watch the rising sun, or
wander thru the gardens that surround the house. In the
evenings, relax in the rockers on the front porch. The
stars are spectacular in the unspoiled country darkness, or
lower your sights slightly and you can occasionally see the
headlights of cars
traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway two miles in the distance.
Focus even closer on the front pasture where the horses are
grazing to take in the display of
lights created by the fireflies. And enjoy the chorus
created by nature - the sounds of a country evening.
If you're in the mood to get out and about, there are lots
of things to see and do in the area. The B&B, located in
rural Botetourt County (www.co.botetourt.va.us/visiting/index.php),
is about halfway between Lexington (
www.lexingtonvirginia.com ) and Roanoke (www.visitroanokeva.com).
Lexington, 30 minutes to the north, is the home of Virginia
Military Institute and Washington and Lee University, and
the old
railroad town of Roanoke, with its museums and City Market
on the Square, is twenty minutes to the south. The towns of
Fincastle, with its historic streets and buildings, and
Buchanan on the James River are just a few miles away.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a short drive away, while access
to the Appalachian Trail is just down the road. Information
on the trail in this area can be found at
www.ratc.org.
Bicycle Route 76 runs past the end of our lane. There are
excellent fishing, hiking, and river running (
www.canoevirginia.net
) opportunities in the area, and
for the really adventurous, try
www.endeavorballoon.com. |
